Daniel Url is a freelance Vocal Specialist, Dramaturg, and Musicologist with extensive experience in the international opera and performing arts sector.
In addition to his work as Vocal Coach, where he guides singers in repertoire, interpretation, and career development, he also serves as a freelance Dramaturg. His professional background includes significant roles at a renowned agency in Munich, the Salzburg Festival, Salzburg Easter Festival, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Landestheater Linz, Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Konzert und Theater St. Gallen, and the Bayreuth Festival, where he contributed to the Artistic Office during the festival’s 150th anniversary season in 2026.
Daniel holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Musicology from Paris-Lodron University Salzburg and has published widely on opera and vocal performance as the founder and editor of The Operatic Musicologist. By combining scholarly expertise with practical industry experience, he is dedicated to advancing artistic excellence in opera and dramaturgy.

With over fifteen years of dedicated research into operatic voices and performance practice, Daniel is recognized as a vocal specialist and expert in casting and vocal dramaturgy. He works with both emerging and established singers through individual coachings, masterclasses, and institutional workshops, helping them enhance their artistic profile, refine their vocal storytelling, and make informed interpretative decisions. His approach, rooted in musicology, bridges vocal technique, dramatic intention, and repertoire knowledge, empowering singers to deliver performances that are both vocally compelling and dramatically persuasive.

Daniel has worked on opera productions at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Landestheater Linz, and Konzert und Theater St. Gallen over the past decade. His expertise as a Dramaturg reflects a unique dramaturgical approach that combines rigorous musical and literary analysis with a strong understanding of theatrical practice. Specializing in the German and Italian operatic repertoire—from Belcanto to the works of Richard Strauss—he provides valuable Opern Coaching through research, concept development, programme writing, and artistic consultation. As a Vocal Specialist, his work seeks to illuminate the relationship between music, text, and stage action, helping creative teams shape coherent and compelling interpretations. Daniel is available for collaborations with opera companies, festivals, educational institutions, and independent artistic projects, bringing his insights into opera dramaturgy to every partnership.

Daniel, a passionate dramaturg, is actively engaged in opera outreach and cultural discourse through a variety of media projects. He is the co-host of the acclaimed podcast Oper ohne Ehrfurcht, created alongside journalist Larissa Schütz, where current developments, artistic questions, and enduring myths of the opera world are explored with insight, expertise, and curiosity.
